Into the light

As we exist in the material world, the subtle system also has the 5 elements that support the different chakras. Light is the principal element whose nature is reflected in our 6th energy centre - the Agnya chakra - at the level of our optic chiasma in the middle of our brain. In a more direct correspondence, at a bodily level our eyesight is looked after by this centre, and of course seeing is all about the light. Also true to the subtle body model, the quality and colour of light greatly influence our mood, cognitive performance and so on as those are generated  by the activity of the same chaskra.

When we go deeper into the physical nature of light itself, we find that it makes the connection between electricity and magnetism, both of which are “static” principles, and becomes electromagnetic waves that are an ever moving, action type principle. Light is also the principal structure in the universe subtle enough to behave as both a particle and a wave. This may seem somewhat esoteric but is in fact highly relevant. At the level of this chakra we find the only point in the subtle system where the left and right channels cross each other.  Magnetism comes from the first chakra and electricity from the fifth, both most essential for the left channel function. Electromagnetism is related to our right side as mentioned above. That is also the side where the particulate nature of things is prominent, compared to our left side for which we commonly talk about emotions and desires coming in waves.

It is also a physical truth that light is in fact the basis itself of our knowledge about as well the deep understanding of the creation. Due to the assumption of the constancy of speed of light, time is in fact a derivative of the speed of light and not the other way around. Length, thus space in general, is also defined by the size of the light’s trajectory. Another fact is that light always goes straight and when it appears to “bend” it is in fact space itself that is bent, and observed from a point in the bend itself light will still appear to move in a straight line. In essence light is the closest we can come to have an absolute reference point in an universe where everything else has some relative aspect to it.

This quality of the absolute shone the brightest in the life of Lord Jesus Christ who embodied the absolute and eternal nature of the pure Self, of the Spirit, that made possible his actual resurrection. He also showed how to transcend both the right and left sided pulls on our attention and ultimately our ego and conditionings. Innocence, forgiveness, humility, compassion - those are the great powers that sustain our inner light and allow it to flow straight and pass through the narrow gate of our Agnya chakra. As our mother energy spreads throughout our subtle system and eventually the brain, it carries that light everywhere and in that light we can see the reality and enjoy it every moment.
