Satisfaction
What exactly is satisfaction ?…What is it made of ? When are we really satisfied ? Should we run after it ? Should we wait for it ? Those questions are really worth meditating on. What is also interesting to note is that we don’t really talk about satisfaction. Nobody says “take this job and you will be fully satisfied”. The advertisements say “ “satisfied or your money back” but the true meaning of that usually remains a mystery in real life.
The more common context to mention satisfaction is that of food. We tend to say that we are satisfied when our tummy is full and our tongue was tickled in the right places. And rightfully so because in our subtle system the chakra that is responsible for satisfaction is our Nabhi, or navel, chakra. And of course food is the primordial need, so fulfilling it generates that primordial state of satisfaction. In the animal world, once the tummy is full, a predator will walk right by potential prey and not give it a second look. It would seek nothing more. No little coffee or desert. And not thinking already about what we’re eating tonight and if that’s going to be better or less good than what we just had…
In that sense we could see satisfaction as the feeling of fulfilment of a need, or a desire. But of course there is a great gap between need and desire, and even needs are not easy to define in an uncontrovertible way. And if the wants and perceived needs are such that they cannot all be satiated at once, it means that no full satisfaction can be ever achieved. And without it we are always in an unfulfilled state, searching for that thing which may leave us completely satisfied, despite it seeming an impossible task.
The key here is our mind and our attention. While both are attached to the material world, we will be always thirsty and always chasing an illusion of satisfaction. We have to move beyond thoughts, in a higher awareness where the attention is now turned towards the Self in order to reach complete fulfilment of yearning and thus true satisfaction. Needs and wants cannot be mentally negated, they will always hang on to us. But we can transcend them and remain at peace, fully satisfied, through the effect of Kundalini awakening and the enlightenment and blossoming of our Nabhi chakra. In that state our motivations also (have to) change, but about that we will talk in a future post….
